Big Events

Technology has brought us so many things - good and bad.  In today's schools, technology allows our students to access a vast amount of resources to enhance their learning process.  These resources can be both good and bad and it is up to the student to determine if they are reliable or not.  With this wide variety of resources, the students are also being bombarded by so many sources of entertainment that they may neglect the important things.  The video games and social networking sites are keeping them so involved that they may not have the personal socialization experiences that children their age had in the past.  I just wonder what kind of future we will have as technology continues to advance.  As a teacher and a mother, it is a daunting prospect as to what our nation and our world may become.

For the blog assignment this week, I decided to have my students discuss what impact that Bin Laden's death may have on them and the world.  Even though he was one person, his impact as a leader has had a huge impact on their lives through his involvement in the planning of the terrorist attack on our country.  These students were barely in the school system when this event occurred.  However, it has had such an impact on our country during their lifetimes that even though they probably only have vague memories of the attack, they had much to say on the assignment.  For some of them, they chose not to voice their feelings in their blog and I accepted this and let them blog on a topic of their choice.  For myself, that day forever changed my life and my view of how safe we actually are . . .
