I played a few games on the Playing to Learn link. I really enjoyed the Free Rice game. I like the idea of donating rice and I think this will appeal to students. Also, it is a good learning experience for them because they are given the correct answer and as they continue playing the game, they are given these words again and again.
I also played Pirates of the Preamble. I agree with Larry's post that the game was limited in it's offerings. I did however like the graphics. I thought they were good.

What types of variety would you suggest if they were to create a second version?
I also like the fact that if you miss a word you are given the correct answer and the word shows up again later on in the game. I have been playing freerice.com for over a year. I was addicted for a while. My husband and I would sit and play it for hours at a time. I think that some students would really like the challenge.
Free rice is an excellent idea for targeting a solution to a social issue along with learning vocabulary. Such a simple idea and the addiction is unreal.
